Bellingham Masters Swim Club (BMSC) is a loosely organized group of swimmers, 18 and up, interested in staying in shape and improving our swimming skills among a supportive group of friends.
Who can participate? "Master" is just a nice way of saying you’re over 18, so if you meet that requirement, you are welcome to join.
Bellingham Masters practices Monday - Friday, 6:00 - 7:30 am. Many swimmers need to get out before 7:30. Workouts tend to follow a weekly schedule;
- Monday - Freestyle
- Tuesday - Stroke (focus on swimming and improving a stroke other than crawl)
- Wednesday - Freestyle
- Thursday - Freestyle
- Friday - Individual Medley (includes sets of Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle)
Bellingham Masters swims in 3 or 4 lanes, depending on how many are swimming that day. Look for the day's workout in a plastic sleeve at the shallow end of the pool.
Bellingham Masters Swimming welcomes all skill levels. You’ll get the most out of workouts if you can swim 50 yards (two lengths) without stopping, but rest breaks are totally fine. Swimmers range from beginners to nationally ranked, and experienced members often help others improve.
Fins, paddles, and buoys are optional. Some bring their own to work on technique or speed, but no gear is required to join.
Nothing! Well, you do need to pay to get into the pool, but there are no extra BMSC dues or costs!
Bellingham Masters Swimming is open to all—just show up around 6 AM and head to the shallow end. Swimmers are organized by speed, with the fastest in lane 4 and slower lanes to the right. New swimmers are welcome to start in the slowest lane and move up as needed. The group is friendly and helpful, and someone will gladly explain the workout and offer guidance.
